What a Registered Agent Does in Florida

Every Florida company needs a registered agent. Here is what the role actually involves, and why it should not be you at your home address.

Florida requires every LLC and corporation to name a registered agent: a person or company with a physical Florida street address, available during business hours, to accept legal and state documents on the company's behalf.

What the agent receives

  • Service of process — lawsuit papers served on your company
  • Annual report reminders and notices from the Florida Division of Corporations
  • Tax correspondence and other official state mail

Why using your own home address is risky

Your registered agent address becomes part of the public record, searchable by anyone. It also means you must physically be there during business hours. Living outside the United States changes the practical answer: what international founders need from a Florida registered agent is a staffed Florida street address, not a home overseas. Miss a delivery and you may miss a lawsuit deadline or fall out of good standing with the state.

What we do instead

Our registered agent service, $17.99 a month for members, provides the Florida street address and the staffed reception the law expects. Documents are received, logged and passed to you the same day, and you can see them in your member area.

Changing your registered agent

It is a simple filing with the state, and we walk members through it. Most changes are done in a single afternoon.
